Being with Beau

Being with Beau is an itty-bitty, scrappy visual novel about spending time with my friend's cat, Beau. Playtime is roughly five minutes. The game came out on June 11, 2025!

The online version seems to work okay, but playing on desktop is the canonical Beau experience! 

• If you play on mobile, be sure to rotate into landscape mode!
• On Desktop, if the web version appears off-center, reset the position of the window (like, un-fullscreen and re-fullscreen it). The ingame buttons won't work unless you do.

• You can choose from four whole activities that just might change as night approaches. Will you pay attention to Beau, or will you work on your computer all night? Your evening could go downhill fast if you aren't careful...

• Beau is a real cat! He's even been in my house before. Beau is a gorgeous little fluffball, but he's skittish, he's got asthma, he gets up to mischief if you're not paying him close enough attention, and he REALLY REALLY WANTS TO HAVE DINNER ON TIME.

Be amazed by my all-original animations, music, and dialogue

• I designed everything in this game to make sure it feels just right. The game has three original music tracks, charming dialogue, and a bunch of cute artwork that will make you fall for Beau too!
• By the way, Beau voices himself!

Here's how to play the game.

• You can play on the browser or through a download. I don't have a lot of experience with Godot's web exports, so let me know if there are any problems with the web version. It seems to work on mobile too!
• Click anywhere with your mouse or press the space bar to advance the text.
• For a few more details, click Help on the main menu.

Here are a few developmental details about the game. 

• Drawn in Krita with Flipnot DX and Flipnot 2, my brush kits for fast pixel-art sketching
  
• Made in Godot with Dialogue Manager
• Fonts: Roboto, Noto Condensed, Pixels
• Music made in FL Studio with sounds based on the Nec uPD9993
• Mildly inspired by the style of Endless Monday.

• v2: Fixed a typo.
• v3: Fixed some very embarrassing mistakes in the bad route.
• v4: The final release! Added a new background, fixed a bunch of bugs, tweaked the sounds, rewrote a bunch of dialogue, and generally polished everything.
